How Do I....
Make An Appointment?

We operate an appointment system called "advanced access", the aim of which is to reduce waiting times and to provide more appointments at certain times of the week to match patient demand. As such, most of our appointments are booked on the day and can be accessed by phoning after 8.30am each day.

Some appointments are still available under the old pre-bookable system and can be booked up to eight weeks in advance. Please help us by trying to use these appointments for medication reviews, routine follow-up appointments, blood pressure checking and certain prescription issues eg HRT.

Even if we are fully booked, we appreciate some medical conditions cannot wait. If you feel you need to be seen by a Doctor urgently, the Receptionist will book you in as an "emergency" extra patient and you will be seen at the end of the appointment list and in addition to the Doctors' fully booked surgery. On arrival you will be given a card detailing what an emergency appointment entails. Please do not abuse this system.

Every month many appointments are lost by people failing to attend their booking without cancelling it. This is wasteful of Doctors' time and lengthens the waiting time for other patients. Please telephone to cancel your appointment in good time so that it can be offered to other patients. If you fail to attend two appointments without informing us we will write to you asking if there were any specific problems preventing you from letting us know. If you fail to attend for a third appointment you may be removed from the practice list and will then have to find an alternative GP practice.

How Do I....
Obtain A Home Visit?

Home visiting is usually undertaken after morning surgery between 12 noon and 1.30pm. Please try to call before 10.00am if you need a home visit. If you feel the problem is urgent, advise the Receptionist when calling. Home visits are for the truly housebound. The majority of illnesses will not be made worse by travelling.

How Do I....
Obtain Test Results?

The Doctor may have advised you to telephone for your results. Wherever possible, please telephone in the afternoon. Please remember our reception staff are not medically trained and as such are unable to interpret results other than those marked by the Doctor as being normal or advising the patient to see the Doctor. The Receptionists will be unaware if there are any outstanding results, so if you are told your results are "normal", this will only apply to the results received at the time of calling. If you are unsure, we would advise you to call back at a later date to check further.
